Y9A: My first song topped Channel O charts

Y9A is one of the trillest upcoming emcees to rise up to the occasion and work towards putting Kenyan Hip Hop on the Map.

Y9A whose real name is Keith Wainaina has a Hospitality Major from Kenya Wildlife Service. Y9A has been in the game for a whopping 10 years starting out as 'AleKeith' where he was trying to master his craft by spitting fire bars on freestyles.

For those not new to the HipHop scene in Kenya, you may remember Y9A's song 'Rise' which was a favorite and was in the charts in 'Channel O' for quite a minute.

Having been out of the scene for a minute to finish campus, Y9A is back with a new EP titled 'Uhai' which he describes as '7 Tracks to symbolize 7 modes of life, our 7 different styles, and 7 different moments that we’ve experienced in this life.

The project is a collaboration with Chozen'Afitra and features new cats storming the airwaves like , KJ, Mush from the Bush, Hush and producer Waves and has tracks which are already gaining numbers and airplay like Safi Safi, Process and Chapa Kazi.

He gets his inspiration from internationally acclaimed figure heads like Jay Z and YBN Cordae not forgetting Khaligraph Jones and Namless who are with no doubt 254's Urban Legends in the music industry.

He has performed 2 tracks in LWKY. i.e Win Now & Weka Tot Ft Chozen' Afitra
