Natty: The Rong Rambo

"There's a revolution that's happening in the music industry in Kenya that one can't really pin point. And the best part about it, is the diversity of sound that's coming out of this. We don't know if its COVID that has brought this awakening but we're definitely here for this.

Now that we're talking about diversity, when you tune in the radio, its not just Gengetone or some Bongo music playing. The Hip-Hop world is finally awakening and new cats are being birthed out. And these new kids aren't here to play.

There's a new sound that's sprouting out of Nairo, and that's #KEDrill. Drill is an original sound that came out of South Side Chicago, USA synonymous with artists such as Chief Keef, Lil Durk etc. In Europe specifically UK, it evolved out of Grime and UK garage and notable artists include Giggs, Michael Dappah, 67, Loski, Digga D, Kweng etc

And let me not lie to you, ask anyone that fvcks with Drill in Kenya about the first person that comes to mind when you think of #KEDrill and the first name that comes out of there mouth is NATTY.

Natty aka Rong Rambo, has had a short stint in the industry with barely two years experience in the industry. He formed a crew named GTA with his friend Chopo who also currently acts as his manager.

So initially, they started by doing freestyles in 2019, experimenting with different flows and lyrics, until lady luck was on their side and they managed to score some equipment to start recording their own music.

Natty' took time to learn how to produce music so that he could work on the sound that he's currently reppin. 'This also makes it easier to song write because you already have a tune in mind when making beats', Natty tells us.

Natty"s debut song in the industry was 4flow. Other members of GTA include THC who's released a jam called Curfew and recently a new banger GOAT and Mando who was the last to join the squad.

GTA as a group are fully independent and plan on keeping that way. They are happy with the response that fans are giving, appreciating that Kenyans are people of taste.

Natty cites Wakadinali, Nasty Goat, THC, Mando and Chopo as the drill artists to watch, urging other artists not to fully copy genre's from abroad but also adapt it to the EA market.

Natty has performed one song "Rong' on LWKY.
